JNSQ Muse: Carolyn Bessette Kennedy
I've been on a Carolyn kick lately. I recently completed RoseMarie Terenzio's memoir "Fairy Tale Interrupted" on her time as JFK Jr's. assistant at his magazine George. In it, she describes her friendship with Carolyn, almost the opposite of how the media portrayed her (a jealous, cocaine-fiend cheater). Although Rose Marie was likely very subjective in immortalizing JFK Jr. and his wife, I found Carolyn's "character" very refreshing as Rose Marie regales stories of her generosity and sweet nature. It's widely known on the internet that Carolyn would take RMT on shopping sprees at Barneys, give her items she no longer wanted (like that amazing vintage leopard coat and her famous Prada tote), and sharing her coveted hair stylist, Brad Johns. If you are as enamored with CBK as I am, it's a good read.
I was obsessed with Carolyn Bessette Kennedy in the 90s and she still remains one of my prominent style icons. Her style was timeless and very modern as if she was walking the streets of New York today. I can only assume fashion designers had her in mind for their Fall 2013 Collections - take a look at the Row, Acne, Calvin's, even Celine's latest collections. As did her M.I.L. in the 60s, her style shaped the woman of the 90s and beyond. She was the epitome of downtown New York City girl, with East coast refinement - a style that is widely mimicked to this day.
CBK's Style M.O.: She owned "sophisticated-prep" wearing an almost all black wardrobe with touches of understated elegance for special events. Her most notable pieces that said "I have great taste and class" where she was known for her handbags, shoes, and statement coats. Often seen running around the city in Levi's and penny loafers. See six of her style essentials here I curated on eBay, here.

Her Go-To Designers: Calvin Klein, Yohji Yamamoto, Prada, Manolo. She preferred clean lines in a basic palette.
CBK's Beauty Arsenal: Carolyn was known for not wearing much makeup. She entrusted facialist Janet Sartin with her skin (and used her products). Her hair color was her secret weapon - shiny "beach baby" blonde, shampooed and conditioned with Kheil's Silk Groom, paired with the occasional signature red lip, courtesy of Face Stockholm, Cranberry Viel . No bushy brows on our muse. She had her's intentionally groomed pencil thin. A splash of "Egyptian Musk" perfume. Get the look here.
